The Most Expensive Blog (The home of the most expensive & luxury things in the world) presents Hong Kong’s Causeway Bay tops shop rent list.

Hong Kong‘s shopping district of Causeway Bay has knocked New York’s Fifth Avenue off the top of the list of most expensive places to rent retail space in the world.

The Big Apple’s most famous shopping street lost its top ranking for the first time in 11 years, in a sign of the strong demand for luxury goods from cashed-up Chinese shoppers, property services firm Cushman & Wakefield said.

“The highlight of this year’s survey was Hong Kong… notwithstanding slowing economic activity, retailers continued to see the market as the ideal launching platform into mainland China,” the firm said in a statement.

Causeway Bay saw a surge in leasing activity with a 34.9 percent hike in rental values to $2,630 per square foot, compared with $2,500 in New York. The Champs-Elysees in Paris climbed two places to third at $1,129.

“There has been the usual jostling for the top positions between Hong Kong and New York,” Cushman’s Global Retail Services chief John Strachan said.

“But of course the real message here is the unfaltering advance of the top global cities, fuelled by a shortage of supply and the interest of international brands.”

Cushman’s Main Streets Across the World report found that luxury retailing was driving rental growth, with stiff competition for the “most coveted” locations.

The Asia-Pacific region had five of the 10 most expensive locations in the world, thanks to its increasingly affluent middle-class.

The Most Expensive Blog (The home of the most expensive & luxury things in the world) presents Dubai to build world’s biggest mall.

Dubai on Saturday announced a new development to open the world’s biggest mall and a park larger than London’s Hyde Park.

The ruler of the Gulf desert city state, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum, announced the plan for a “new city within Dubai,” according to an official statement, naming it after himself.

No cost was stated for “Mohammed bin Rashid City,” to be carried out by his Dubai Holding and the publicly-listed Emaar Properties, which developed many of Dubai’s prestigious projects, including Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower.

The plan also features new residential areas, although the emirate continues to have a surplus of units built during a five-year bubble which burst in 2009.

The “Mall of the World” will have a capacity of 80 million visitors a year to become the “largest in the world,” while its park will be “30% bigger than Hyde Park of London.”

The mall will be connected to a family entertainment centre to be developed in cooperation with Universal Studios International that will be the largest in the region, aiming to attract six million visitors a year.

The emirate already has countless malls and hotels, including the Dubai Mall, touted as the world’s largest shopping, leisure and entertainment destination, with 62 million visitors this year.

“The current facilities available in Dubai need to be scaled up in line with the future ambitions for the city,” Sheikh Mohammed said in the statement.

Dubai’s tourism is growing by 13% a year with hotel occupancy hitting 82% in 2011 while hotel revenues grew 22 percent last year, exceeding $4.4 billion.

The Most Expensive Blog (The home of the most expensive & luxury things in the world) presents Gold and silver mooncakes sell out in China.

Mooncakes made of gold and silver are selling like hot cakes in China as gifts during the Mid-Autumn Festival, reported Xinhua news agency last week.

Sold in various weights of gold or silver, many of these mooncakes have reportedly sold out in the run-up to the Mid-Autumn Festival on September 30.

Mooncakes, a traditional Chinese delicacy made of lotus seed paste, are given to family and friends in China as gifts to celebrate the Mid-Autumn harvest festival.

The Bank of Communications is reportedly selling a 500-gram gold mooncake at over 21,000 yuan (US$3340) while ICBC Bank is offering a gift box of two 50-gram gold mooncakes, inscribed with auspicious motifs and Chinese characters, for 47,620 yuan (US$6,820). The cheapest of ICBC Bank’s range of mooncakes is a mooncake made of silver that is priced at 850 yuan each (US$135).

Other banks that have also jumped onto the bandwagon include the China Merchant Bank, Bank of Communications and Agricultural Bank of China.

These gold mooncakes are usually purchased as gifts and customers must order at least two week in advance; the gifts are “usually not for families or friends.”

The Chinese are among the top consumers of gold in the world in recent years. Over the past year alone, the ratio of Chinese rich investing in gold jumped from 0.1 percent in 2011 to 11.5 percent in 2012.

The Most Expensive Blog (The home of the most expensive & luxury things in the world) presents Top 10 Most Expensive Dishes In The World.

From food app dishpal comes an infographic detailing some of the most expensive foods in the world, among which are gold-lined, truffle-laced and wine soaked foods!

The most expensive dish is a $16,000 meat pie sold at the Fence Gate Inn in Lancashire. Filled with 6 lbs of Kobe beef, each slice will set you back $2,000.

What does that princely sum buy you? A meat pie marinated in two bottles of 1982 Chateau Mouton Rothschild, filled with truffles and Matsusake mushrooms, and edible 23-carat gold for garnish.

At New York’s Westin hotel at Times Square, chef Frank Tujague created a limited time $1,000 bagel stuffed with white truffle cream cheese and goji berry-infused Riesling jelly with gold leaves (pictured above).

And from BrewDog in Scotland comes an $800 to $1,100 pint of Belgian ale that comes in a dead, squirrel carcass.

Other expensive foods on the graphic include a $12,000 pizza topped with lobster, caviar, eight different cheeses and hand-picked Australian river salt from Italy.

And there is a Samundari Khazana Seafood Curry at $3,000, ironically released to coincide with the film Slumdog Millionaire….

The Most Expensive Blog (The home of the most expensive & luxury things in the world) presents Eiffel Tower is Europe’s most valuable monument.

The Eiffel Tower has been declared the most valuable monument in Europe – worth 435 billion euros to the French economy, a new study claims.

The venerable Paris landmark was estimated to be worth six times its nearest rival, the Colloseum in Rome, valued at 91 billion euros.

The study by Italy’s Monza and Brianza Chamber of Commerce based its findings on a monument’s “image, brand and visibility”, calculated by cross-referencing 10 different parameters from various analysts and statistics bodies.

Criteria included a “tourist index”, which took into account “the economic value of the location, the fame of the monument, the flux of visitors to the territory and monument” and an “economic attractiveness index”, comprising factors such as the number of jobs it created and its export value.

The huge value of the “Iron Lady” – as the 1,050ft tall edifice is affectionately known, amounts to almost a fifth of France’s entire annual gross domestic product.

Built in 1889 as the entrance arch to the World Trade Fair, the Eiffel Tower is the most visited paid for tourist attraction in the world which last year saw 7.1million people climb to one of its three viewing platforms.

200 million visitors have now visited the landmark since it opened and the tower is still the tenth tallest lattice style building on the planet.

The Most Expensive Blog (The home of the most expensive & luxury things in the world) presents Video games collection sells on eBay for $1.2 million.

A French video game collector just sold a collection of thousands of video games on eBay for more than $1.2 million.

The collection includes every video game for many of Nintendo’s consoles, every video game for every single Sega console and also for lesser-known game consoles. In total, the collection includes 22 full sets with about 7,000 video games.

The seller says he took exceptionally good care of his precious games. All are factory-sealed with original boxes and instructions. Many of the games have never been opened or played. He even kept the boxes away from direct sunlight.

The efforts seem to have paid off, as a buyer from Canada has purchased the lot for the asking price of 999,999 euro (around $1.23m) for this jaw-dropping collection.

The Most Expensive Blog (The home of the most expensive & luxury things in the world) presents World’s most expensive movie poster for sale.

A rare movie poster of the 1927 silent classic, Metropolis, will go under the hammer once again as part of the liquidation of its owner’s assets.

The poster, painted by the German artist Heinz Schulz-Neudamm is one of only four known surviving copies.

It was bought by collector Kenneth Schacter for a still-record $690,000 but it is valued at $250,000 in the bankruptcy filing.

However, it was put on sale for $850,000 in March and experts believe it could become the first poster to sell for more than $1 million on the open market.

Schulz-Neudamm’s painting of the artificial woman, or the Robot, is used by a mad scientist to seduce an race of workers in a totalitarian futuristic urban city.

Made in Germany during the Weimar Period, Metropolis is set in the year 2026 in a dystopian society in which a wealthy elite rules from vast tower complexes, oppressing the workers who live in the depths below.

The silent film was written by Lang and his wife Thea Von Harbou, and starred Brigitte Helm, Gustav Fröhlich, Alfred Abel and Rudolf Klein-Rogge.

The Most Expensive Blog (The home of the most expensive & luxury things in the world) presents First Apple computer fetches $374,000.

A rare surviving first model of the Apple computer — a stripped down, clunky device that bears no resemblance to today’s sleek gadgets — sold for $374,000 at auction in New York on Friday.

The price was more than double the pre-sale estimate, reflecting a two-way bidding war eventually won by an anonymous telephone bidder, Sotheby’s said.

The Apple I computer was created by Apple co-founders Steve Wozniak and Steve Jobs and sold in 1976 at the birth of Jobs’s career as the world’s computer design guru.

The model auctioned in New York is believed to be one of six of the less than 50 surviving that still works.

The Most Expensive Blog (The home of the most expensive & luxury things in the world) presents Britain’s most expensive garage.

The Britain’s most expensive garage space (pictured below), a six meter double garage located in the prestigious Knightsbridge neighborhood of London, is priced at £525,000 ($850,000).

Hidden in a tiny back street close to Harrods, the double garage does not look special from the outside.

The garage on the little-known Rysbrack Street is painted black, but not that recently, and the brown brickwork around the garage has been blackened by dirt.

But it has just been put on the market with the highest price tag ever charged for a garage by the estate agency WA Ellis, which was founded in 1868.

Robert Lewis, an associate at W A Ellis, insists the garage is ‘exceptionally valuable’ because it is ‘very rare’ for a freehold garage in Knightsbridge to come up for sale.

The garage was put up for sale a week after a flat-roofed brick shed, in Highgate village, north London, went on the market for £259,950.

The Most Expensive Blog (The home of the most expensive & luxury things in the world) presents Rare golden snapper sells for $38,000 in Bangladesh.

A Chinese businessman paid $38,000 for a rare golden snapper Thursday in the Bangladeshi port city of Chittagong, a leading fish trader said.

The unidentified Chinese businessman from Hong Kong bought the 37-kilogram (82-pound) fish “for its tasty bladder and succulent flesh”, Jahangir Saudagar, who sold the fish, told AFP.

Saudagar, who works at the Fishery Ghat market near Chittagong port, had bought the snapper from fishermen returning from the Bay of Bengal late on Wednesday.

He purchased the fish at an auction, beating out at least 500 other traders.

“I continued to bid until everyone else gave up because I knew I could sell this fish at (a high) price. In the end, I sold it for 3.05 million taka ($38,000),” Saudagar said.

Zoology professor Noman Siddiqui of the Marine Fisheries Academy in Chittagong said the golden colour of the snapper — usually red or silver — was the reason it commanded a high price.

Only “three or four golden snappers are caught in the Bay of Bengal” every year, Siddiqui told AFP. In some Asian cultures, snapper meat is considered a delicacy.

The sunglasses that worth $400,000 are made of 60 grams of 24 carat gold and decorated with 51 full-cut 4 carat River diamonds.

The diamonds are set by using a special technique so that the stones are set more closely together than with the classic pavé setting. By being placed this way, the stones create a carpet that lets out a special light.

The Most Expensive Blog (The home of the most expensive & luxury things in the world) presents Hong Kong is most expensive place to rent office space.

Hong Kong is now the most expensive place to take office space, according to the latest figures from Knight Frank.

Hong Kong’s prime office space, which includes the city’s bustling Central district, was renting for as much as a monthly HK$1,046 (US$135) per square meter last year, a growth of 28%.

By contrast, growth in London’s spiffy West End – formerly the world’s most expensive – slowed last year after a rapid 31% climb in 2010.

Driving the spike in rents is the huge demand by banks for branches in Hong Kong and in Asia’s leading financial centres.

Office rents in Beijing soared by 46% during the year to US$56.83 per square feet, becoming the world’s 19th most expensive location.

The Most Expensive Blog (The home of the most expensive & luxury things in the world) presents The World’s Most Expensive Office Tower.

The price tag for One World Trade Center, the signature skyscraper under construction at Ground Zero in New York, has risen to more than $3.8 billion.

According to WSJ, the price tag for the building has shot up $700m from the latest public estimate, making it the world’s most expensive new office tower.

Once completed, the 1,776-foot tower will be the tallest in the U.S., but it won’t be the highest in the world.

In comparison, the developer of the world’s tallest tower, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, said it cost $1.5 billion to construct.

Most of the cost overruns are due to the security measures being taken in the design of the building which sits on a site that has been bombed twice by terrorists.

Conde Nast has already signed a lease to move its headquarters to more than 1 million square feet at 1 World Trade Center!

The Most Expensive Blog (The home of the most expensive & luxury things in the world) presents Top 10 Most Expensive Cities In The World – 2012.

Photo: Zurich, Switzerland

For the first time in at least two decades of reporting the worldwide cost of living survey Zurich sits atop the ranking as the world’s most expensive city.

An index swing of 34 percentage points pushed the Swiss city up 4 places compared to last year to overtake Tokyo which remains in 2nd place.

Geneva, the other Swiss city surveyed saw a 30 percentage point rise in the cost of living to move up six places into joint third alongside Osaka.

The authors of the bi-annual report said both Japan and Switzerland have seen strong currency movements over the last few years which have made them relatively more expensive.

Currency movements in Australia also explain the presence of both Sydney and Melbourne in the list of top ten most expensive cities to live.

Hong Kong, which has long been noted as an expensive place to live, is surprisingly ranked at 22, much lower than its third-placed position a decade ago.

The survey of 130 cities worldwide compares more than 400 individual prices across 160 products, including food, clothing, transport, rents and private schools.

The price of a litre of petrol for example varies hugely from city to city. In its breakdown, the EIU shows that it is $2.17 in Paris but only $0.96 in Moscow.

Despite eurozone weaknesses, western Europe still accounts for 24 of the most expensive cities in the top 50, with 14 hailing from Asia.

The Most Expensive Blog (The home of the most expensive & luxury things in the world) presents The World’s Most Expensive Hot Dog Costs $100.

DougieDog, a Frankfurter outfit in Vancouver, Canada is offering what is now the world’s most expensive hot dog: the $100 ‘Dragon Dog.’

The Dragon Dog is made with a bratwurst  infused with hundred-year-old Louis XIII cognac, which costs more than $2,000 a bottle.

Other ingredients include Kobe beef seared in olive and truffle oil, fresh lobster and a secret picante sauce.

The restaurant claims the Dragon Dog is the first hotdog in the world to sell for three figures, challenging the $69 haute dog at Serendipity restaurant in New York.

Dragon Dog is not a limited time item but a regular feature on a menu which already boasts popular choices like the CharlieMac Dog, Seoul Dog, and Super Mario Dog.

The Most Expensive Blog (The home of the most expensive & luxury things in the world) presents Chinese Buyer Pays $328000 for a Pigeon.

A Chinese shipping magnate has paid a world record-high $328,000 for a Dutch pigeon, according to PIPA, an international pigeon auction house.

The buyer of the most-expensive pigeon on record, PIPA said, is Hu Zhen Yu, who runs a shipbuilding company in China.

He bought the bird for breeding rather than racing in China, where pigeon fancying is a fast growing sport and big business.

The bird was auctioned off in a group of 245 pigeons on the Belgian website Pigeon Paradise. The auction total take of $2.5 million was also a record.

Pigeon racing has a long and storied history in Western Europe. The sport dates back to the Romans and Charlemagne, who made pigeon-raising the exclusive privilege of nobles.

In today’s races, pigeons are launched hundreds of miles from their home, or “loft.” The first birds back win the race.

The sport has taken off in Asia, and especially China, which loves any kind of race that creates a betting opportunity.
