Wayne Gretsky, also known as ‘The Great One’, is likely the most well known hockey player in the world. He also previously owned the most expensive baseball card, Honus Wagner tobacco card which later sold for $2.35 million.

One card of Gretsky himself recently sold for an astonishing $94,163. The 1979-80 Wayne Gretzky O-Pee-Chee rookie card was sold by California-based SCP Auctions in May, 2011.

You may still be asking, what is the world’s most expensive hockey card? While the Gretsky card sold for a staggering amount, two other hockey cards bested the recent sale.

A mint graded 1911-12 Imperial Tobacco Georges Vezina hockey rookie card sold for $100,000 in April, 2007. Vezina was a legendaly goalie playing for the Montreal Canadiens.

This expensive hockey card sale was tied by a September 207 sale of a rare 1910-11 C56 Edword “Newsy” Lalonde hockey card. Lalonde previously held the record fothe most goals scored by a player.

The Most Expensive Blog (The home of World's Most Expensive and Luxury) presents World’s Most Expensive Mattresses.

People have been tirelessly searching for the best and most comfortable mattress for years. Tempur-Pedic, Kingsdown, Select Comfort, and Healthsmart by Simmons are some of the most recognizable names in mattresses, and some of the best sellers too. Beds with these brand names are known for their hypoallergenic components and control switches. What’s funny about the expensive bed market is that there are no conclusive studies about what surface is better for the most productive sleep, it simply has to do with individual preference.

The Vividus—made by Hastens—is the most expensive bed in the world. Its name is Latin for “Full of Life.” Sleeping on the Swedish designed Vividus bed has been described as “sleeping on a cloud.” All that sounds pretty appealing until you see the price tag of $59,750. That’s a far cry from your average $700 queen-sized mattress.

If you’re looking to buy a little closer to home, then check out America’s most expensive mattress—the E. S. Kluft Beyond Luxury Sublime.
Each Kluft mattress is handcrafted by a bedding artisan and the Beyond Luxury Sublime is no exception. Made with a blend of cashmere, silk, exotic wools, high-quality horsehair, certified organic cotton and all-natural Talaly latex, the most expensive American-made mattress is both truly luxurious and truly comfortable.

The mattress features a tissue pick design to offset the cream-colored jacquard damask and the surface is emblazoned with a large Wedgewood blue medallion for a stately, royal look.

For those without 44 grand to spare, Kluft offers beds at a variety of price points—some below $1,000. Best of all, they even offer a 20-year warranty.

The Most Expensive Blog (The home of the most expensive & luxury things in the world) presents World’s most expensive tiara.

A dazzling tiara featuring emeralds believed to have belonged to Eugenie, wife of Napoleon III, sold for a record 11.28 million Swiss francs ($12.80 million) to an anonymous buyer at Sotheby’s.

The diamond and emerald tiara was commissioned by German prince Guido Henckel von Donnersmarck’s for his second wife Katharina.

It was top lot at a sale that netted 78.9 million Swiss francs, third highest for a jewellery sale, the auction house said.

“It is needless to say a world record price at auction for a tiara,” said David Bennett, chairman of Sotheby’s Europe and Middle East jewellery department.

The previous record is for the tiara mounting the Shizuka Diamond (101.27 carats), which was sold by Christie’s Hong Kong for $6.2 million in May 2008.

The Most Expensive Blog (The home of the most expensive & luxury things in the world) presents Most Expensive Pigeon.

In the movie Stardust Memories, Woody Allen echoed the sentiment of many Americans when he referred to pigeons as ‘rats with wings’.  Each society has their own set of rules when it comes to the ranking and treatment of different animals, so it comes as no surprise that the storied past time of pigeon racing, currently gaining popularity in China, has yet to catch on in the US.

Pigeon racing has rich cultural roots all over western Europe, and training carrier pigeons has been the privilege of noblemen throughout history.  It is said the Rothschild family banking dynasty benefited from receiving advance news of Napoleon’s defeat at Waterloo from their homing pigeon.  Modern pigeon racing first gained momentum in the mid 19th century, when Belgian practitioners of the sport began breeding the animals for speed and endurance.  Similar to horse-racing in the US, opportunities to bet on racing pigeons have become big sponsored events in China.

The most expensive pigeon in the world was sold to a wealthy Chinese buyer, who shelled out $200,000 at a Belgium auction for a highly pedigreed racing pigeon.  Known as Blue Prince, this ‘designer’ pigeon seems a breed apart from the plump, trash-foraging birds commonly seen in urban parks.  Currently living out his retirement on a Chinese roof top,  Blue Prince is no longer expected to race, but was purchased to breed more speedy champions like himself.

The Most Expensive Blog (The home of the most expensive & luxury things in the world) presents Most Expensive Vacuum.

Hardly an icon of luxury, the vacuum is more commonly viewed as the weapon of choice for janitors, maids, stay at home moms, and those who rank somewhere along the Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder spectrum.  Companies like Dyson, Kirby, and Hoover may offer state-of-the-art sucking technology; but the offensively loud, droning, cat-terrorizing machine is still seen as considerably less sexy and luxurious than, say, a feather duster from The Dollar Tree.

Enter the most expensive vacuum cleaner in the world: The Crystal Ergoripado by Electrolux.  Created in 2009 by Polish Fashion designer Lukasz Jemiol, the vacuum was commissioned to commemorate Electrolux’s popular Ergoripado model.  The limited edition black and white version of this model was chosen to be adorned head to toe with 3,730 Swarovski crystals.  Electrolux lovingly states “Inspired by (the Ergoripado’s) beautiful form, we decided to create something extraordinary”  Electrolux has already won several design awards for the sleek Ergoripado.

This one-off, record-breaking vacuum cleaner is still available at a hefty $19,340, leading one to question the overlap between those who could afford the pricey cleaning device and those who actually vacuum their own houses.

Not since the iconic 50’s Stepford wife glided a Hoover around in high heels has the vacuum had such an image make over.  The lesson here is that with enough diamonds, Swarovski crystals, or even just a bedazzler, the most humble household item can discover it’s inner diva.

People have been decorating their nails since before the rise of the Roman Empire, so it’s only natural that someone would create a truly extravagant nail polish. Well, look no further as these are the most expensive nail polishes in the world.

I Do by Ellie Cosmetics – $55,000

You won’t find this expensive nail polish at your local Sephora store. Created as a collaboration between women’s beauty magazine Allure, Essie Cosmetics, Platinum Guild International (PGI) and British platinum supplier Johnson Matthey, I Do is made with powdered platinum and debuted at JCK-Las Vegas in 2005. The first batch of this luxury nail polish was displayed in a special bottle created by PGI and designer Henry Dunay and made of—you guessed it—pure platinum.
A normal bottle of the platinum polish can be purchased for a more affordable $250.

Gold Rush Couture by Models Own – $130,000

While this golden nail polish will certainly draw attention as your completely smooth nails glitter like diamonds set in delicate gold leaf, it’s the bottle that steals the show once again. This time, the posh polish features a hand-crafted gold lid inlaid with 1,118 diamonds. While this exclusive bottle is on display and available to order from Frost of London, an inexpensive “ready to wear” version will soon be available from Models Own and Boots.

MP3 players have taken the world by storm since Apple released their original 5 GB iPod in 2001. The iPod wasn’t the first MP3 player, though. The first of the modern successors to portable tape and CD players was produced in 1997 by SaeHan Information Systems. Their MPMan, later licensed to Eiger Labs for distribution in North America, held only 32 MB of music.

Since then, MP3 players have become almost as ubiquitous as cell phones—and they’re status symbols in the same way cell phones are, as well. A variety of expensive MP3 players have been released in the past decade. What follows are the most expensive MP3 player in the world.

Stuart Hughes’ iPod Touch Supreme Fire Edition – $330,000

The latest luxury gadget by Stuart Hughes, this iPod Touch—already a costly MP3 player—has been refitted with 125 grams of solid 24k gold and embellished with 124 flawless diamonds totalling 75 carats. That includes an Apple logo set with fifty-three diamonds, a border of diamonds around the face and a 2-carat diamond set in the center of the home button and surrounded by twenty-eight smaller diamonds. This luxury iPod is a limited item and only three will be made.

For the cash-strapped, Hughes also offers his standard iPod Touch Supreme for about $220,000

The Most Expensive Beef Noodle Soup in the world!!

Beef noodle soup is a Chinese dish consisting of beef, beef broth, vegetables and noodles. While it’s generally served as a side dish in the West, it can constitute a whole meal in its country of origin.

The most expensive beef noodle soup in the world is available from a restaurant called Beef’s Father Noodle in Taipei, China. The restaurant’s owner, Mr. Congyuan Wang, traveled for five years in order to find the best beef. The resulting soup contains several different kinds of premium beef from the US, Australia and Japan.

Only ten bowls of the expensive soup are served daily, and each one costs a hefty $320.

World's most expensive soup!!

Kai, a London restaurant formerly known as Mr. Kai, recently served a bowl of the most expensive soup in the world. The primarily Chinese restaurant’s expensive dish was priced at £108 ($214 USD). They call it “Buddha Jumps over the Wall.”

So named because, as a vegetarian, the Buddha was forced to sneak out of the monastery and “jump over the wall” to enjoy it, the soup typically calls for such expensive ingredients as abalone, quail eggs and shark fin. Kai’s soup delivers on the shark fin and abalone while also including scallops, ginseng and gold. It also delivers on the typical one to two day prep time and then some. Kai requires at least five days notice to prepare the expensive soup.

Kai is located in Mayfair and is owned by former barrister and 2004 Olympic trap shooter Bernard Yeoh. The world’s most expensive soup is prepared by Kai’s head chef Alex Chow.

World's Most Expensive Fish!!

A giant, golden tigerfish recently caught off the coast of the province of Guangdong in southern China made news when it became the world’s most expensive fish. The 105 lb fish was purchased last April by a restaurant for the price of 580,000 yuan ($75,000 USD). Considering the original asking price of 800,000 yuan ($103,500 USD), you could say they got a bargain. Of course, they paid three times as much as was paid for a similarly massive tigerfish three years prior to this purchase.

Tigerfish are so called because of their coloration, fearsome appearances and ferocity when captured. The largest tigerfish are Hydrocynus Goliath while the tigerfish most common to Southeast Asia are Datnioididae

The restaurant in question named their acquisition “Golden Cash Tiger Fish” in Chinese. They planned to sell the most expensive fish in the world to diners for about 2,000 yuan per kilogram (or around $117 USD per lb).

Significantly smaller than the popular leather versions, they are designed to be worn as a bracelet, with the handbag strap resting on the wrist.

It took accessories designer Pierre Hardy, two years to produce the intricate creations. Each of the new designs will only be produced three times.

When asked who he thought would buy the handbags Patrick Thomas, Hermes’ CEO replied: “I have no idea. But maybe they will have two bodyguards!”

The Most Expensive Blog (The home of the most expensive & luxury things in the world) presents Gold and silver mooncakes sell out in China.

Mooncakes made of gold and silver are selling like hot cakes in China as gifts during the Mid-Autumn Festival, reported Xinhua news agency last week.

Sold in various weights of gold or silver, many of these mooncakes have reportedly sold out in the run-up to the Mid-Autumn Festival on September 30.

Mooncakes, a traditional Chinese delicacy made of lotus seed paste, are given to family and friends in China as gifts to celebrate the Mid-Autumn harvest festival.

The Bank of Communications is reportedly selling a 500-gram gold mooncake at over 21,000 yuan (US$3340) while ICBC Bank is offering a gift box of two 50-gram gold mooncakes, inscribed with auspicious motifs and Chinese characters, for 47,620 yuan (US$6,820). The cheapest of ICBC Bank’s range of mooncakes is a mooncake made of silver that is priced at 850 yuan each (US$135).

Other banks that have also jumped onto the bandwagon include the China Merchant Bank, Bank of Communications and Agricultural Bank of China.

These gold mooncakes are usually purchased as gifts and customers must order at least two week in advance; the gifts are “usually not for families or friends.”

The Chinese are among the top consumers of gold in the world in recent years. Over the past year alone, the ratio of Chinese rich investing in gold jumped from 0.1 percent in 2011 to 11.5 percent in 2012.
