The Most Expensive Blog (The home of the most expensive & luxury things in the world) presents Gold and silver mooncakes sell out in China.

Mooncakes made of gold and silver are selling like hot cakes in China as gifts during the Mid-Autumn Festival, reported Xinhua news agency last week.

Sold in various weights of gold or silver, many of these mooncakes have reportedly sold out in the run-up to the Mid-Autumn Festival on September 30.

Mooncakes, a traditional Chinese delicacy made of lotus seed paste, are given to family and friends in China as gifts to celebrate the Mid-Autumn harvest festival.

The Bank of Communications is reportedly selling a 500-gram gold mooncake at over 21,000 yuan (US$3340) while ICBC Bank is offering a gift box of two 50-gram gold mooncakes, inscribed with auspicious motifs and Chinese characters, for 47,620 yuan (US$6,820). The cheapest of ICBC Bank’s range of mooncakes is a mooncake made of silver that is priced at 850 yuan each (US$135).

Other banks that have also jumped onto the bandwagon include the China Merchant Bank, Bank of Communications and Agricultural Bank of China.

These gold mooncakes are usually purchased as gifts and customers must order at least two week in advance; the gifts are “usually not for families or friends.”

The Chinese are among the top consumers of gold in the world in recent years. Over the past year alone, the ratio of Chinese rich investing in gold jumped from 0.1 percent in 2011 to 11.5 percent in 2012.

The Most Expensive Blog (The home of the most expensive & luxury things in the world) presents Top 10 Most Expensive Dishes In The World.

From food app dishpal comes an infographic detailing some of the most expensive foods in the world, among which are gold-lined, truffle-laced and wine soaked foods!

The most expensive dish is a $16,000 meat pie sold at the Fence Gate Inn in Lancashire. Filled with 6 lbs of Kobe beef, each slice will set you back $2,000.

What does that princely sum buy you? A meat pie marinated in two bottles of 1982 Chateau Mouton Rothschild, filled with truffles and Matsusake mushrooms, and edible 23-carat gold for garnish.

At New York’s Westin hotel at Times Square, chef Frank Tujague created a limited time $1,000 bagel stuffed with white truffle cream cheese and goji berry-infused Riesling jelly with gold leaves (pictured above).

And from BrewDog in Scotland comes an $800 to $1,100 pint of Belgian ale that comes in a dead, squirrel carcass.

Other expensive foods on the graphic include a $12,000 pizza topped with lobster, caviar, eight different cheeses and hand-picked Australian river salt from Italy.

And there is a Samundari Khazana Seafood Curry at $3,000, ironically released to coincide with the film Slumdog Millionaire….

The Most Expensive Blog (The home of the most expensive & luxury things in the world) presents Eiffel Tower is Europe’s most valuable monument.

The Eiffel Tower has been declared the most valuable monument in Europe – worth 435 billion euros to the French economy, a new study claims.

The venerable Paris landmark was estimated to be worth six times its nearest rival, the Colloseum in Rome, valued at 91 billion euros.

The study by Italy’s Monza and Brianza Chamber of Commerce based its findings on a monument’s “image, brand and visibility”, calculated by cross-referencing 10 different parameters from various analysts and statistics bodies.

Criteria included a “tourist index”, which took into account “the economic value of the location, the fame of the monument, the flux of visitors to the territory and monument” and an “economic attractiveness index”, comprising factors such as the number of jobs it created and its export value.

The huge value of the “Iron Lady” – as the 1,050ft tall edifice is affectionately known, amounts to almost a fifth of France’s entire annual gross domestic product.

Built in 1889 as the entrance arch to the World Trade Fair, the Eiffel Tower is the most visited paid for tourist attraction in the world which last year saw 7.1million people climb to one of its three viewing platforms.

200 million visitors have now visited the landmark since it opened and the tower is still the tenth tallest lattice style building on the planet.
